Infrared / Bulb Heaters Frequently Asked Questions

Can some Infrared heaters be cleaned?
Yes:  They require no special maintenance other than occasional cleaning to prevent excess accumulation of dust and lint on surfaces. It is important for the reflectors to be kept clean to obtain the maximum radiant output. If used as a movable unit, the cart and cord should be checked periodically to make sure the hardware remains tight and cart and cord are not damaged. Do not continue to use the heater if damaged.

Does it mater what I put in front of an infrared heater?
Heater element operates at very hot temperatures. Do NOT place heater near combustibles and DO NO T place combustibles in the radiation path in front of the heater. Keep all combustibles at least five (5) feet from front of heater.

Can I use a Radiant Heater in my Bedroom?
Yes:   A great heater for bedrooms is a radiant ceiling panel. Ceiling panels allow full usage of wall and floor space. No noise. No moving parts. No maintenance. No ceilings, walls or drapes to clean. No dried out air.

What is infrared heating?
The original infrared heater is the Sun, the infrared sun raise travel long distances without heating the air as it travels. The sun heats the ground which in turn heats the air and everything above it.
Electric Infrared heaters work in a similar way, the electric heater warms objects and people on contact. The infrared rays are absorbed by the ground and objects at floor level - all of which become warm and heat the air in the room floor to ceiling.

How can a thermostat control an infrared heater?
All thermostats measure air temperature, so the infrared heater will keep heating the floor and other objects until the warm surface heats the air. When the air is up to temperature and the thermostat is satisfied the infrared heater will shut off, until the thermostat has another call for heat.
Smaller infrared heaters have an ON/OFF switch. A 500 watt electric infrared heater is too small to heat a room by itself. Smaller infrared heaters are used above tables, or portable vertical models are just spot heaters not room heaters.

What is the difference between spot heating & space heating?
Space heating means that the entire room is warm, like a home heating system.
Spot heating is like a spot light; only a small area is affected be the direct infrared heat. Spot heating is in used outside on patios, outdoor waiting lines. It heats people who work in cool warehouses, loading docks, etc.
Some people like working under infrared spot heater and some don't, its like standing in front on a camp fire on a cold night. Your front is warm but your back is still cool. Every heater has it application infrared spot heating is an economical heating solution.

How does a RCC Cove heater work?
The RCC cove heater mounts on any wall surface, near the ceiling where its dual function heating can be fully utilized. Radiant heat energy is directed downward, warming people and objects near the floor, as well as the floor itself. Room air gains heat from these objects and rises toward the ceiling. The back side of the cove heater acts as a convector heater, pulling the cooler air from the floor area, behind and over the heater, thus helping to circulate and mix the air in the room until it reaches an equilibrium temperature. The out-of-the-way mounting also permits complete freedom of furniture placement in a room, because the heaters will not be subjected to blockage, which reduces the efficiency of floor or low-wall mounted heaters.
